Chapter-6:- Keys
(A.) Types of Keys:-
i) Emergency Key:-
This key can open all the rooms even those are double locked. It is kept under lock at front desk.
ii) Grand Master Key:-
It is with executive housekeeper. It can open all the rooms including double locked rooms as well as storage areas.
iii) Master Key/Pass Key:-
It is with deputy housekeeper or housekeeping manager. It can open all the rooms but not double locked rooms.
iv)Floor Master Key:-
It is kept with floor supervisor. It can open all the rooms on a given floor but not double locked.
v) Sub-Master Key/Section Key:-
It is kept with room attendant. It can open all the rooms in a particular section but not double locked.
vi) Guest Room Key:-
It is issue to guest by front office.It can open only one room allotted to guest.
vii) Supplies Key:-
It is kept with room attendant or supervisor. It is used to open cupboard where supplies has been stored.

(B.) Computerized Key Cards:-
Most of the hotels use computerised key cards. These cards looks like debit card with holes punched on them. Some have magnetic strip instead of holes. These cards act as key to unlock the door. A computer can be use to code cards to unlock the doors.These keys can be easily created and destroyed through computerized card system.

(C.)Key Control :-
It is the process of reducing guest belonging help and other security related incidents.
i) Guest key must not have room number.
ii) All the keys should be signed in and signed out each time, they are issued and return back in key control register.
iii)Employees are not allowed to give their keys to another employees.
iv) Record must be kept if new key is made.
v) If a section key is lost the entired section should be rekey.
vi) If master key is lost it must be reported to general manager.
